It has been some time since I have come by this site but I wanted to try to spread the word to keep BF1942 alive.

In case some of you were not aware, Gamespy, who hosts the in game server list is shutting down this Saturday, May 31st, 2014. Gamespy hosts the master list server for Battlefield 1942 (among other games). It is used when you press "Update" button in the in-game server browser. Unfortunately it's also contacted automatically when you enter Multiplay -> Internet and if the master server is not responding, you'll get a lengthy freeze until the request times out. Currently there's no info from EA about doing anything about it for BF1942. Instead they've removed BF1942 from Origin downloads.

There are a couple of solutions to this issue. First, connecting directly via IP. There are also several sites that allow you to connect directly such as GameTracker. Another solution is a modified EXE file that some players of the --=[ aX ]=-- server have created. The modified EXE changes the server IP for the in game server list. This will allow the game to pull the server list from a different server funded by some players. This will prevent the game from freezing and you to continue enjoying the game like nothing ever happened.

As for many of the BF1942 players, we do not want to see this game die. Please spread the word on how to fix this to keep the community going.

I don't mean to link to another forum but you can see a couple of different ways to keep playing and also download the patch/read more about the issue here: or

Hope to see you all on the Battlefield!
